Every police officer deserves respect until he has proved himself undeserving. The law is absolutely crucial to the peaceful, prolific and free lives we lead. Cops have a damn hard job and I am always very deferential when I have to deal with them. I too was rather amazed at my friends attitude. A sheriff's deputy helped me get a tow truck when the water pump on my 240Z failed in the middle of nowhere. As far as the WSP goes, I have been stopped at least 4 times by them and never received a ticket. Once I was going 87 in a 70 mph zone; not a really big deal, but clearly a situation in which one couldn't complain if a ticket was issued. It's been my experience that they are lenient, professional and respectful. They're probably the first people most of us think of when the chips are down on the highway.
